Homelessness & Poverty in our neighborhoods and across America One of the major crisis facing our country today is the astronomical number of people that are faced with the problem of where do I sleep tonight and what will I eat. This crisis continues to be brought before our local and federal government however, the funds allocated to solving this problem are not nearly enough. So what do we do? Should we continue to go before the legislative body seeking additional funds? Sure we should! But what do we do in the mean time? There are men, women, boys & girls waiting for someone to help. Do we bury our heads in the sand and wait for someone else to do what needs to be done? Do we act as if there's not a problem at all? Do we judge them and refuse to help because it's their problem? Do we believe they could have avoided this problem, something they did contributed to it? And the reasons go on and on. Gods word says the poor will be with us always and commands us to open our hands wide to our brother, to our poor and our needy, in our land (Deuteronomy 15:11). The commitment to these people of God is very different from one individual to another. Not everyone has the same passion to get directly involved with homelessness but I know everyone has a heart to show them some form of love. Let's not continue believing someone else will give, we must start with the man or woman in the mirror. There are many Homeless advocates, organizations, ministries etc. with a heart for helping Gods people. It is imperative that we not only meet their natural needs, but more importantly, we must meet their spiritual needs and preach the gospel. While we are eager to help, we must appeal to the American people to help financially. We realize everyone can't get physically involved but would like to help in some way. Your financial support will make a difference in the lives of many! Luke 4:18 The spirit of the Lord is upon me , Because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed. |
